A lawyer since 1957, a trial judge from 1970, an appeal judge from 1980 until retirement in 1997, and an arbitrator and mediator since, I have now completed almost 40 years as a judge or arbitrator.
Either by mediation or arbitration, I have since retirement resolved several hundred disputes, with total claims in excess of $CDN 1 billion.
With Team Victoria, I have now completed four Fairness Monitoring jobs respecting projects valued
valued in total at almost $2 billion, and currently am under contract for two new jobs. Read all about Fairness monitoring here.
In 2009, after many years of travel back to Alberta for work, I will no longer do so regularly. I may go for the occasional arbitration or multi-day mediation.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London, in 2001, I was named to the Canadian roster of the International Chamber of Commerce's International Court of Arbitration, Paris. I am also associated with ADR Chambers, both domestic and international.
I am the author of a book called Standards of Review, about appellate review. The 2nd Edition (co-authored by Kim Willey) was published in 2006 by Juriliber.
